Hello there! My name is Alecs and I am so excited that you found my blog! Now it's time to cuddle up with your favorite furry friend, mine is my cat Goof, and start reading!
This year my husband and I were lucky enough to escape the cold spend a week in South Padre Island, Texas. We thought we were only escaping 20 degree weather, but we also missed a ground blizzard in Fargo. For two days the wind chill was close to -50 degrees! Texas may have been cloudy, but I will take 54 and windy any day over that wind chill!
Our South Padre Trip was our Christmas gift from my in-laws. They were gracious enough to invite us to stay with them for a week while they were also visiting the area. I am usually the trip planner, so it was amazing to sit back and relax because my in-laws had planned out the whole week! We spent time on the (very windy) beach, went on two boat rides, and visited a lighthouse. For anyone who doesn’t know, I love lighthouses so that was a highlight of the trip!
Since South Padre Island is an island, there is a long bridge you have to cross to get there. Not only did we drive over the bridge, but our boat rides took us under it as well. I love the lines and architecture of bridges and how they pop in black and white!
Puerto Rico has always held a special place in my heart, especially because of the wild cats all around the island. South Padre reminded me of Puerto Rico because they also had cats soaking in the sun! This little guy looks a lot like my cat Goof!
One of our boat trips was on a pirate ship! The crew put on a whole show for the kids while we enjoyed the ride. However, when it came to the water gun battle, they insisted that everyone join in!
This minty-green plant caught my eye as we were walking. I love the muted greens with the pops of pink. I only wish I had a wedding ring set and a macro lens to photo details with this bush! The colors are just perfect for wedding detail photos.
The sky was bright and overcast, but the white lighthouse still stood out!
South Padre Island was surprisingly foggy for quite a few days while we were there. The fog blocked the sun, but also made for a very pretty beach day. The light was soft and I even convinced my husband to take a photo of me!
Bonus, I even got a few photos of my husband and I together! He doesn’t like taking photos, so I’m always thankful when he agrees to a quick picture.
On our last day in Texas, the sun finally came out! We went on a dolphin tour and saw some shrimp boats. It was a great way to spend our last day in South Padre. I might need more practice photographing dolphins though, they were too quick for me!
Since the sky cleared, we ended out trip with a beautiful sunset! I am so thankful we were able to travel to South Padre Island early this year. Especially since travel is now becoming more uncertain as 2020 continues.
Ready to look back at some of our past trips?
