Hello there! My name is Alecs and I am so excited that you found my blog! Now it's time to cuddle up with your favorite furry friend, mine is my cat Goof, and start reading!
Hiring wedding vendors is always an overwhelming task when it comes to wedding planning. Not only are there so many choices for each vendor, there are also so many types of vendors to consider! You know you need a venue and a photographer, but do you also need wedding rentals and a calligrapher? To help answer some of these questions, I interviewed a local wedding calligrapher. I have featured Taylily Lettering on my blog before, but now I wanted to find out why couples should hire a wedding calligrapher!
Calligraphy can add such a special, personal touch to the written word. There’s something about the way your words can be stylized that changes or sets the tone of your event. A handwritten design can give your event the unique touch that sets you apart from everyone else.
When you hire a calligrapher, you’re lessening the load of your wedding planning by a landslide. Time-consuming tasks such as addressing envelopes for your save the dates and invitations can all be taken care of by your calligrapher.
Absolutely! I love calligraphy because you can make it fit just about any style, whether it’s farmhouse/rustic, fine art and elegant, boho/hygge, or more traditional. I offer my signature modern calligraphy style, but we can tweak handwriting depending on the style and theme you’re trying to achieve. Reference photos are your friend when asking for these kinds of things.
I’m a huge fan of Pinterest! You can find so many great reference photos to determine what you want and it really helps the calligrapher understand the style you’re trying to achieve. Searching Instagram for hashtags such as #moderncalligraphy or #weddingcalligraphy can also be gold for finding just what you want. If you’re less into social media, magazines such as Shimmer + Chic, ND Bride, and special wedding issues from Area Woman Magazine and Spotlight Media are also great resources for finding inspiration, and most provide a vendor list of talented locals ready to help make your wedding dreams come to life.
Depending on the desired calligraphy service, it’s always recommended to reach out to calligrapher’s well in advance of your wedding date. Wedding season is May to November, so looking into calligraphy services is ideal in the slower winter months to ensure their schedules are free to meet your deadlines. Envelope addressing can take up to three weeks depending on the size of your guest list, and it’s always a good idea to plan accordingly with that in mind!
For bulk items, if applicable, selling to another bride for their wedding planning is convenient. Another thought is reaching out to a photographer who does styled shoots, as they may be able to use their items in flat lays or something similar. For more personal calligraphy items that have been made unique to you as a couple, it’s never a bad idea to save as a keepsake for your future home together!
For weddings and events, I offer custom signage for menus, welcome signs, fun table signage for the guestbook, a dessert table, or anything else you might need written for informing your guests — you may even have an inside joke, hashtag, or loving quote you want shared somewhere during your event. Surfaces such as mirrors, stained and sanded wood, blank frames, leaves as place cards — there are so many fun things that can be customized for your big day! If you have the surface on-hand, I can provide my lettering services to customize just as you’d like.
Taylily Lettering can be found on Pinterest, The Knot, Instagram, and Facebook.
