Hello there! My name is Alecs and I am so excited that you found my blog! Now it's time to cuddle up with your favorite furry friend, mine is my cat Goof, and start reading!
How much time do you have to plan your wedding and enjoy your engagement? Do you want to be engaged for six months? Or maybe you have always dreamed of a longer engagement? It’s important to talk with your fiancé and discuss how long you want to be engaged! As soon as you say yes and put on the ring, friends and family will start asking about a date. Don’t worry though! You don’t need a set date right away. However, you can start thinking about the year and season you want to get married in. That will give you a few weekends of options to work around with schedules and venue availability. Once you know you want to get married in Winter of 2022 or maybe Summer of 2023, you will have a better idea of your wedding planning timeline!
This is one of the most important first steps to wedding planning. Sit down and figure out your budget. Before you start touring venues or looking through bridal magazines, it is best to have an idea of what you want to spend, and what you can afford. Once you have a budget set, you can break it down and see where your budget will go. Whether you want to spend more money on the videographer and save money on the decorations, or maybe splurge on a live band but book a less expensive venue, there are plenty of options for where you can spend your money.
Setting a budget at the beginning of your planning is also important because it can prevent surprises at the end of your wedding planning! You will have money set aside for the last 30 days of payments because you did not overspend at the beginning of your planning.
Now it’s time to get inspired! It’s the perfect time to start flipping through magazines, pinning to your Pinterest boards, and looking online for wedding planning inspiration. There are so many styles, colors, and themes for weddings that the options are endless. However, with so many options it can be overwhelming to try and figure out what you want. By looking through and narrowing down ideas, you will feel less overwhelmed as you begin your wedding planning!
It is too early to create your guest list and you may not even know where to start. Just like your timeline of engagement though, you need a rough idea to get you started. You will need an estimated guest list number when you are looking at venues, caterers, and so many other aspects of planning your wedding. Remember to keep your budget in mind and see if you have to decide between an amazing meal for 300 guests or your dream venue that only holds 150 guests. Take a quick headcount of family and friends and use that number while you begin to plan. Once your wedding day gets closer it will be easier to create the exact guest list knowing the maximum amount of guests you want to invite.
All the tips above are great ways to start off wedding planning when you are newly engaged, although, there is one more important step you should never skip. It is time to celebrate your engagement! Wedding planning can be fun, yet stressful, and can fill up all of your time if you let it. Don’t forget to celebrate being engaged! Plan a date night with your new fiancé/fiancee, or an engagement party with your friends and family. It’s the start to a very exciting time in your life, so don’t forget to slow down and enjoy it!
